When I was just a little boy I was fascinated by Robbbie The Robot from Lost in Space. I remember him flaying his arms and shouting "DANGER!" "DANGER!" Many people don't know it but Robbie was actually the first real Robot used on a movie set and that was for the movie Forbidden Planet in 1958. Then when Star Wars came out, at the very impressionable age of 11 years old, guess who were my favorite characters....nope not the heroic Luke Skywalker or the beautiful Princess Leia...but you guessed it.....C3-PO and R2-D2. I guess I always had a thing for Robots!

That's why, in 2005 as a Mathematics consultant for the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board I started the Robotics Teacher Training center and the Robotics initiative where every school in my board would receive a LEGO Robotics class set and training on how to use them. With the help of Barry Hannah, we put together a great training course that would teach educators how to build, program and test robots and how to run exciting challenges. I also began being active in running the provincial Lego Robotics competition and in 2008 was appointed the chief organizer and judge of the Quebec Robocup.

All of our robotics initiatives proved so popular that Yannick, Barry and I decided to create a new community of Robotics Educators called ZONE 01. The goal of this community is to support all Robotics Educators wherever they may be and to be active in promoting the use of APRs (Autonomous Programmable Robots) in the classroom. We're starting small...but already our community can boast over a dozen members and should grow quickly!

In 2010, ZONE 01 brought the ROBOGAMES to all Montreal area schools. Inspired by Olympic events, the ROBOGAMES are intended to push the limits of what Robotic Technology can do in today's classroom!

Always keep the gears turning!
